This story (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0CWU/is_2001_Oct_23/ai_79376838) comes to mind often when I read about swords and (ir)responsible sword use.

In October 2001 (about a month after 9/11), a young man from Dracut, Mass. (hometown of one of the two pilots lost in 9/11) went to Boston's Logan International Airport (where the 9/11 hijackers boarded) and went about to three different terminals, carrying three long swords tucked in his belt (or in his pants, depending on which version of the story you read online)

He had no intention to fly anywhere.

What was this guy thinking?

I tried to find the resolution of his case but couldn't! I wondered if perhaps he was mentally ill?

I think its unlikely that he would have been found insane. He wasn't charged with a felony offense, so he would have had to have gone to a jury trial to try for such a finding. That would have required a lot of money for a defense attorney.

A likely scenario for a person facing such a charge is that they go to court, plead out, pay the fine, and have a misdemeanor offense on their record. If the person had no priors and stayed out of trouble for 5 years, the offense is essentially removed from public record. :)

I have to remember to pack my keychain knife before I fly later this month.
