The F-16 is not known as the viper.. It is known as the Fighting Falcon and has been called that since it was introduced into the air force inventory.. Take it from an old retired Air Force NCO

Right, the official designation is "Fighting Falcon". The announcer at the show introduced it as that, and wiki and a few other sources also have it listed under the nickname 'Viper'. Also, I believe this was the Viper West demo team, or at least 1 of the members.

The Viper west demo team is out of Hill AFB, UT. The plane is still the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Here is the official fact sheet of the USAF regarding the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The patch on the pilot's flight suit is from the Hill Air Force base locate in Utah.. He was probably part of a recruiting drive since the official Air Force Demo team is the Thunderbirds and use the F-16.. Each unit of the AF has a specific name that identifies their unit.. That is probably why I posted the name of the aircraft without knowing the unit he was representing.. Here is their weblink incase you want to get more info on the squdron.

Times have changed immensely since I retired out of the airforce.. The Thunderbirds were the only unit that went on the road and demonstrated at airshows when I was still a young airman some 2 decades ago.. Damn, have I been retired that long.. Time flies when you get old

Major David "Booster" Graham (http://viperwest.hill.af.mil/bios/graham.html) was the pilot at Geneseo. They made a big deal over this with him being a 'local' guy.
