It was a business which turned up by accident.

The Caņetes and Abesamis' of Cebu, who put up the Doce Pares Zipline, the first in the province, never intended to make it a business venture.

Engr. Michael Caņete said they first developed the area in the mountain barangay of Busay, Cebu city as a training area for their organization, Doce Pares, which is promoting “eskrima,” a type of Filipino martial art that emphasizes fighting using sticks, knife or staf as weapons. It is more popularly known as “kali” or “arnis.”

Doce Pares, an organization founded by Caņete’s grandfather and Manuel S. Abesamis, Jr., leased a parcel of land in y Busay, where they put up the Academy of Eskrima to train their students as well as to hold conferences of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation which has 27 member-countries.

“That's all we had intended the place to be,” Caņete recalled.

To develop the area, both partners had to spend P4 to P5 million. But they expect to spend double the amount for more developments they plan to finish within the year like a second and longer zip line, a rock climbing facility, sanitary areas and many more.

According to Caņete, they decided to officially make it a business venture aside from a training area for their members when they noticed more people dropping by and requesting to try out the zip line.

The zipline's more popular than the eskrima? Say it ain't so!
