Suspect killed, victim hurt in home invasion (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2010100106013)
An Eastside resident fended off a home invasion Tuesday that left a female robbery suspect dead, police said.
Miguel Duarte, 30, shot and killed the attacker after she had shot him at his home in the 4600 block of East 21st Street, said Lt. Jeff Duhamell, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman.
Duhamell said two men and two women confronted Duarte at the front door of his home shortly before 7 a.m.
After a scuffle, one of the women shot him in the neck. He then grabbed the handgun from her and shot her. She died there, police said.
The three surviving suspects fled[...]Duarte was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition. Duarte's wife and children, ages 4 and 6, were in the home. They were not harmed, police said.
Someone who takes a shot to the neck then disarms his attacker is definitely someone who is fighting to stay alive, and keep his family alive.
