U.S. President Barack Obama will be given an honorary Taekwondo black belt from the Kukkiwon to mark his first visit to Korea on Wednesday and Thursday. A government official said that President Lee Myung-bak will present President Obama with an honorary Taekwondo degree certificate and a uniform embroidered with his name. President Obama practiced Taekwondo for about four years with an American master in Chicago from 2001 while he was serving in the Illinois state senate. He obtained a green belt.

Well, at least he'll be able to open a school in a strip mall somewhere to earn a living after he's done, rather than be forced to eek out a meager living on the speaking circuit like Clinton and Bush.

He will need this blackbelt in tkd to intimidate the Kim Jon Il from North Korea from lighting off the candles needed to fire the nuclear missiles that North Korea is allegedly aiming towards Hawaii and other points of US interest in the Pacific region.. Maybe it will be enough to keep him under control by intimidation instead of boring Kim Jon to death with the constant teeth chattering allegely known as verbal intimidation by the world's political powers

Give him a break, it took him 4 years to get to green belt rank. At that rate of progress, it would've taken him over 2-3 decades to get to (under) black belt. Anyone who is familiar with Tae Kwon Do would know that you're not really considered black belt until you get your 1st dan rank. So it's kinda insulting to give him the lowest black belt rank. Why not give him a master rank of 5th dan? hyuk

I'm guessing this is a picture of the honorary black belt being given:

How many precidencies does it take to get a black belt in TKD? One. How many knuckles would he break actually hitting someone? Priceless.

A more specific comment on that photo:

Mr Obama struck his pose after his South Korean counterpart gave him a tae kwon do uniform and black belt as a gift during their summit talks.

The president is known to have studied the martial art for four years from 2001, when he was a junior senator in Illinois.
