They've just started a new season of The Best Defense (http://www.fmatalk.com/showthread.php?t=1023) that is subtitled "Survival". It features the same hosts as before.

This season is focused on what to do after a disaster (hurricane, fire, nuclear attack). The production values seem higher and it was neat to see some of the sites first responders use to train for disasters, but it did seem to be appealing to a somewhat more survivalist mentality than the previous street-awareness version. It isn't aimed at hardcore survivalists, I think, but did talk about using rifles while searching for resources and such. If it doesn't go back to some hand-to-hand or everyday self-defense I may lose interest. As usual, those with an interest in practical firearm usage will find it more interesting!

I just watched the second episode. While there is still a fair amount of good, basic self-protection advice in there (preparedness, etc.), I feel it's slipped too far toward fear-mongering--you and a friend driving around the city, your friend literally riding shotgun, as you search for resources. It's no longer the series it was.

This series is boring as far as I am concerned.. When you live in the south pacific islands and have earthquakes, typhoons and other natural disasters.. It gets old hat that stuff you are already geared up for is repeated on time and time again.. But it has it's good points, but not as good as the original concept..

Right now the focus on fires and epidemics and such isn't really holding my attention. I'm watching on inertia for now, but there's no longer any CQC stuff at all...

OK, I've pretty much lost interest in this.
