In ptk there are many things I consider that are landmarks in the system, but one event sticks out more than any I can think of and that is the Big Springs camp in 1982. That camp was a who's who in the system. The camp had evryone who was first generation and alot of people I consider my heroes in the system such as Erwin Ballarta, Ricky Rillera, Tuhon Phil Gelinas, Tom Bisio, Eric Knaus, and Tuhon Bill. Ricky is one of my mentors and he always refers back to the camp and how brutal it was. In addition to Ricky I have also heard from a guy who attended the camp named Kevin Jodoi that it was all good times. Anybody who was in attendance at this great event have any stories?

Tuhon Bill, would you happen to have some footage of the Big Springs camp that you would be willing to share with us on your youtube page?

Unfortunately, I didn't own a video camera back then and don't have any video of that camp. Some video was shot at the camp and I remember watching it at Leo's house, but I haven't seen it in years.

Wow, everyone looks so young there. It was great to see that again. I don't think I've seen that clip for many years.
Leo was in his 40's but looks about 30, as does Dan Inosanto.
I saw Tom Bisio a few years back and except for one or maybe two gray hairs he looks very close to how he did back then. He is doing espada y daga in the clip with his student Mark Shulzman (sp?). Mark did very well at the first Lionheart tournament back in 97.
Eric Knaus and I now sport the same high speed-low drag hair style (guess who the skinny kid is with the blue shirt and big hair who is range sparing Eric).
It's hard to see on the clip, but I'm fairly sure that the sword Leo is using at the end of the video is the same one shown in the still photo of him we are talking about in the Sword Emblem post.

Tuhon, the guy with Tom is Mark Saltzman. Mark worked closely with Tom at the time and was a natural at PTK. All you had to do was show him something once and he could do it. Unfortunately, he and Tom had a falling out a few years later. It was too bad because the two of them made great training partners.
