Greetings to all,
As there has not been that much activity on the forum of late, including very little activity in the Albo Kali Silat subforum, I think it is time to liven things up a little. I know that many people are busy (including me--my work schedule has been pretty intense lately), that some of us are spending more time out of doors due to nice weather rather than indoors on a keyboard, that many of us are training and teaching rather than posting a lot (there is only so much time in the day, after all), etc. However, let's see if we can liven up the discussions and increase the postings a bit.
Here is the deal:
I am going to give away a brand new, still in the box, Spyderco folding knife. This giveaway will be in the form of a contest and, since I'm paying for the knife (and I've checked with Arnisador and cleared things with the moderators), I get to make the rules.
1. You do not talk about "Fight Club"
(Sorry--I couldn't resist)
The real rules of the contest:
1. The contest starts tomorrow, June 17, 2009 (at midnight Eastern Standard Time if you really want to get technical)
2. The contest ends on July 3, 2009 (at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time)
3. Within that time frame, the member of this forum who posts the most posts that actually contribute to the forum and the discussion of Filipino Martial Arts will win the knife.
4. Since it is my knife, I will determine what constitutes a post that contributes to the discussion on this forum. Here are examples of what will not be counted as a post in this contest
-One or two word posts or other posts that are clearly designed merely to boost your post count.
-Posts that merely quote someone else without significant content that is your own being added to the post.
-Posts that are trolling and are clearly designed merely to illicit negative responses, create strife, or remove all doubt as to the fact that the poster is a complete ass.
-Other posts that I feel are not really contributing to the forum and which are a result of the poster trying to "game" the rules/system and grab the knife without really furthering our discussion (this is the catchall rule to keep things "honest").
5. Moderators and staff of FMAtalk are not eligible to play (Arnisador felt that was the fairest way to do things, and I agree).
6. Posts can be in the Albo Kali Silat forum, but they do not have to be. Post whatever questions, comments, discussions, etc. you wish about any style of FMA on any subforum of this board and it counts, as long as it does not violate rule 4 above.
7. I have no problem if a new member contributes a lot and wins this knife. I even have no problem if someone joins the forum during the contest and manages to win. However, if someone joins solely to try to win the knife, I expect it to be pretty obvious from the quality of the posts that are made, and, since quality counts, there is little likelihood of that person winning the knife.
Now, I will ask some help from Arnisador and possibly the other moderators in determining the members with the top post counts in the time frame (Bob probably can do this through V-Bulletin manipulation). I will then review (and I will be checking the forum as much as possible anyway and should have an ongoing view of what is going on) the posts from the top posting members and determine a winner. The winner gets this:
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=226
The knife will be shipped directly from Spyderco to the winner. When I contact the winner, he or she will have to give me a valid shipping address. I will pay for the postage.
If you win, here are some additional rules to consider:
1. The winner is responsible for the legality of receipt and ownership of the blade. If you win and tell me to ship it, I am assuming it is legal, and if it gets you in trouble it is your problem.
2. If you are outside of the United States and win the blade, there may be a delay in shipping if Spyderco cannot ship directly to your nation (they have some dealer and distributor agreements, etc. that sometimes get in the way of stuff like that). This would mean that the knife would ship to me, and then I would ship it to you. If the knife is seized by your nation's Customs enforcement as illegal, etc., that is your problem.
3. You will notice that there are three versions of the Endura Wave knife--combination edge (partially serrated, partially "normal" or plain edge), plain edge, and spyder (fully serrated) edge. You get to pick, since I am ordering this knife directly from Spyderco off of my normal account--the discounted price I pay is the same for any of these. I am partial to the plain edge on most Spydercos, but the serrations are great for cutting rope, cardboard, and other such materials.
4. It may take me a few days to determine a winner at the close of the contest--I am busy after all. I will post the winner's name as soon as I can.
5. If the winner is in a foreign nation that would make the ownership of the knife or carrying it illegal, I do reserve the right to get with the winner and possibly substitute something else that Spyderco makes that the winner might like that is legal where he or she lives. If I can't work things out with the winner, then I will go to the next most prolific poster.
I hope you enjoy the contest.
Now. think up some good topics and start posting:bow:
