The Northern VA Criminal Justice Academy is holding their yearly Defensive Tactics Instructor Course (2 week program)in November. This year it will be covering the Edged Weapon Defensive Tactics Level 1 program, currently developed by Datu Tim Hartman. The program is geared for defending against an "unskilled suspect" with a "committed attack".

The following is what was posted on MT about the event:

The E.D.T. Program (Level One) complied by Datu Tim Hartman was showcased at the Re-Certification Course for D.T. Instructors, here at the Nothern V.A. Criminal Justice Academy today and was well recieved.
Instructors were shown the "Force on Force" and "Go with the Force"
blocks for edged weapon defense and other related material within the program.

As a result, one Department Instructor is requesting additional training for February 2006 for their "Street Crimes Unit".

Congrats Tim on the success of your program. Be sure to let the guys at the academy know where to get quality training batons and knives. :)

Are there plans on pitching your program to other police academys?

EDT Program at N. VA Police Academy

Braving rain, snow and a "traffic stop", Datu Hartman arrived in Northern V.A. safe and sound this week. He was one of 2 featured Instructors teaching the Arlington PD Street Crimes Unit/Jump Out Team. Training began with a morning session of Hand Combatives covered by Investigator Loconti (LCSO). Then the afternoon session Datu Hartman covered the EDT program. Datu Hartman fit right in with the Unit members and all had a informative training session.
Future training sessions are already being discussed and all are eager for more! The Hand Combatives covered were "Gross Motor" skill strikes encompassing "Cup Hand Blows", Hammer Fists, Axe Hand and Elbows, Forearm strikes and various low line kicks.
The EDT program blended well into the various hand postioning shown to execute the Hand strikes (Hand Position #4 of 4).
