I saw this on ED, though it's been discussed elsewhere before (try a google search on the term):

Whipboxing (http://www.whipboxing.com)
Whips and video clips (http://www.aussiewhipmaker.com/)

This is the sport of fighting with whips. From the rules (http://www.whipboxing.com/rules.htm) page:

The game is played on a points system. Each round is the best of 3 points 1 point per fair crack of the whip. Championship games are the best of three rounds The game is controlled by a referee who who is able to call 1point for a lost cracker, 1 point for out of bounds The referee is in total charge and is bound by the rules of the game. A point is called when a player is hit in the area of the forehead (right between the eyes).

(Formatting is as in original.) It appears that only hits to the forehead are counted, with fencing masks and long robes used for protection. All I can say is...ouch!

An article (http://www.knucklepit.com/mixed-martial-arts-gayle_nemeth_whipboxing.htm) on whipboxing, and a video clip (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4755474947460512585&hl=pl).

I know some FMAs teach the whip, but I don't know of any that spar with it!

You'd be surprised at what some groups do to spark interest in their training. If learning some of the so-called traditional weaponry of the FMA is your thing then go for it. I prefer a more functional approach. While you will not get the same affect with a "crack", you can emulate the use with a pana, antenna or what have you. However, unless you are superior and can strike the eyes at the first go...I find the method useless.
