Hi everyone, this is the seventh out of 12 Threads for a detailed Discussion on the Doce Methodos of the Pekiti Tirsia Kali System I have started.

I hope these Threads will help beginners as well as long time Instructors in their understanding of the Techniques, Conceps and Principals of the Doce Methodos.

For a start I will - once again - just put some Information about the Method and some questions you can use as a guiding Idea for your own Post and Reply – to anyone who has other Thoughts and/or Questions, I am looking forward to read them…

Lets keep going…
This is the Information about the Panastas / Sunkete taken from www.pt-go.com:
-Panastas-Slashes/Seven (7) Attacks Form
-Sungkete-Thrusts/Basic Form and Drills
-Largo Sungkete

Is this the way you have been taught/are learning or teaching?
Do you know the Drills/Techniques/Forms above?
How do they work / Can you describe it/them?
How do you Train/Teach them?
What do you think (have you learned) is the “Essence” of this Method?
How do you Train, this Method (how often, which Drills etc.)?
How did you Learn this Method?
Who taught it to you?
What (other) Drills and Techniques do you use to Train / Teach this Method?

What else do you know or want to tell all of us about this Method?
Etc. etc. ect.

I am very much looking forward to your answers!

Some additional Information from me:
The Panastas Sunkete "Pitong Sugod" “Panastas-Slashes/Seven (7) Attacks Form” is Techniques Number 44 to 50 in the “64-Attacks”.
(A Video of the “64-Attacks” can be found at http://www.nyackfightingarts.com/videos/videos.html it is named “Abecedario Form”)

More Info from me to come soon…

Still I hope you will all contribute to this Thread – I am very much looking forward to it!

Yours,
Mono

Now that we have more PT practitioners on the board, perhaps we can get some discussion of this! I know GM Tortal of DTS emphasizes the power of Sunkete strikes.

What is the meaning of Sunkete.

principle is "Thrust then a slash" Correct?

I think the word itself refers to the hooking-style techniques that look somewhat like a boxer's hook, with the point of the stick.

So That sytem would be a Hooking sytem?

Interesting!

Haven't learn much of it yet.. hopefully soon!

If you look on the Pekiti Tirsia Global Website under system and terminology, they have definitions for most of the terms used in the Doce Methodos.

Sungkete means thrust

Panastas means slash

I don't have a lot of experience with Pekiti Tirsia, but I've done some training with Tim Waid and when he taught this method, the basic skill was combining the Slash and Thrust on the same line.

For example: Slash down with a diagonal forehand strike and let it cut through the centerline. Then thrust back up the same line with a backhand thrust.

While this is the foundation skill that I was taught, I don't think this hooking thrust is the only type of Sungkette taught. In the method, they mention the largo sungkete, which is taught in the 7 count form. This thrust looks similar to a fencer's lunge because you step out into a rather elongated stance and thrust out in a straight line ahead of you.

Though it seems that the Pekiti-Tirsia Largo Sungkete leans the upper body down much more than a sport fencer's lunge. I was also taught to bring the alive hand up to cover near the forehead (I was told it was for eye protection). So it is not the same.

Again I'm new to Pekiti Tirsia so there's probably more to it than what I mentioned, but I hope that helps.
