Deputy Stabs Suspect During Fight
After Vehicle Stop (http://www.sacsheriff.com/media/0116_vehicle_stop.cfm)

He asked the driver to step out of the vehicle so he could speak to him behind the car. As the deputy and driver were standing behind the car, the driver attacked the deputy. During the ensuing struggle, the deputy felt the suspect grab his handgun in an attempt to remove it from its holster. As he fought with the suspect to maintain control of his gun with one hand, and believing he was in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury, the deputy drew a knife from his duty belt with his free hand and stabbed the suspect in the upper body. The suspect stopped fighting at that point and was handcuffed by the deputy.

Sounds like it might have been a Kabar TDI that was used.

I have one and don't like it--it's too small--but I understand why it would work as an off-hand, back-up knife for a LEO.

It is small and that is definitely a valid knock on it. http://www.fmatalk.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
