Cop: Woman's attack led to his retirement (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009901030406)
A St. Joseph County police officer who was hurt during a 2005 cane attack by a 79-year-old woman says the injury resulted in his recent retirement.
Sgt. John Pavlekovich, 54, says that while people joked about the incident, he injured his lower back and right shoulder when he caught Cpl. Lonny Foresman as Foresman fell from the blows by the woman's cane.

Betty Chambers was convicted of battery and served two days in jail for striking Foresman in the head.
Leaving aside that she shouldn't have been striking a police officer--which I don't find at all funny; injured in the line of duty is injured in the line of duty--the fact remains that a 79 year old woman used a cane to drop the corporal. That's a testament to its utility as a weapon for the elderly and infirm.
