I would highly encourage a New Year pledge to read the book by Sgt. Rory Miller, (A comparision of M.A. training & Real World Violence)
I have attended lectures including David Grossman (On Killing) and John Giduck (Terror at Beslan) and this text by Rory is spot on with the outlook on Violence, how there is such a huge "Ostridge Effect" for most M.A. practioners and civilians for sure, on the need for raw/pure violence in defending oneself in today's society and tapping into our Primal ruthlessness to defend ourselves when all other avenues of avoidance of a deadly threat has been exhausted.
Hats off to Sgt. Miller for this text and thanks to my student "Jason" for such a gift at this time in society...
