Albo Kali Silat Article in Black Belt

In the February 2009 issue of Black Belt magazine there is an article discussing Albo Kali Silat low level attacks and defenses. The magazine was out at the local Barnes & Noble here in Ohio, so it may already be at your local newstand, for those interested.

I saw it at the bookstore tonight! The picture sequence really drove home for me that the silat influence is real in this art. That's some low-line, elbow-using material!

You should have seen some of the photos that the magazine decided not to use--techniques "lower" or closer to the ground and a few elbow and knee dislocation takedowns. Thanks for taking a look at the material.

I do not have the article in PDF and Black Belt buys the publishing rights so the article will not be posted on my website. If Black Belt puts up a PDF of the article, I'll link you to it.

I finally got the issue. Good article. I'd like to see some more FMA in that publication.

I think Black Belt usually puts articles up in their archives section of thier website a few months after publication.

In answer to your request, I put some photos up in the Album section (Albo Kali Silat). To see the series in order, start with the last photo (photo 30 of 30, the caption is "Series 1: Bear hug attempt") and keep hitting the "previous" button until you are finished. i dropped the quality of the photos significantly in order to fit them on the site, but you can still see the techniques.

Read the article and it was well done. It actually sounded like you narrating :biggrinbo

They may have edited the title and a bit of the beginning but it could have been much worse.

At least they didn't rename it "KALI - GOING DOWN ON YOUR ATTACKER."
