A dad-and-daughter team is celebrating after they were named British stickfighting champions once again.
Nine-year-old Tanya Thomson, who goes to Icknield Primary School, won the girls' championships for the fifth time, while her dad Stuart Husband, 44, reclaimed the men's heavy-weight veterans' title.
Stuart, who has been champion three times, said his daughter's ambition is to be the next Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Tanya and Stuart train at Luton Kapatiran Arnis Club with Escrima champion John Harvey, which meets on Tuesdays at Park Town Community Centre.

CHILDREN and adults from all over Cornwall are to take part in the first South West stick fighting championships in Bodmin.
On Saturday children as young as five took part in the championships which were dubbed a huge success by organiser Ian Mudie, who runs Impact Martial Arts Academy in Bodmin.
He said: “The participants were using the method of Kali/- Escrima, which is a highly efficient and sophisticated weapons and empty hand system from the Philippines. Kali training develops speed, agility, timing, body mechanics and good co-ordination.”

Jujitsu world champion Rebecca keeps her promise to Haverigg (http://www.nwemail.co.uk/jujitsu_world_champion_rebecca_keeps_her_promise_t o_haverigg_1_659971)
The warm-up was exhausting for the Haverigg fighters and then the intensive three-hour course in the Filipino stick fighting art of Arnis went ahead. The course covered the triangular footwork used by all the Filipino arts, stick manipulation, self-defence and unarmed combat.

Jujitsu world champion Rebecca keeps her promise to Haverigg (http://www.nwemail.co.uk/jujitsu_world_champion_rebecca_keeps_her_promise_t o_haverigg_1_659971)As usual the papers get it wrong, she has won 5 Eskrima world titles (I know I trained her) and not Ju Jitsu ones and she has never done Ju Jitsu to any great degree, but then again the news paper reporters can be a bit thick.

Heh, I don't expect much from them--they have no idea that there are more martial arts in the world than karate, kung fu, judo, and boxing, it seems.
