Knot Direction.

I'm very sensitive to knot direction. For me, each rattan stick has anup and a down, defined by the nodes. I always grab the stick at the thickest part, so that nodes sort of "point away from me" in terms of the direction of growth. Of course, I see many people just pick up their stick at any orientation, but to me it just feels funny if I don't hold it that way.

Are other people sensitive to know direction, or is it just me?

I too hold most of my sticks thick side down with the growth direction of the nodes pointing away. It just seems to lock the stick into the hand better.

On sticks that have had the nodes ground down or the skin removed I'm not as likely to do it, but on sticks with nodes that stick up I almost always do.
