I have met Olehe Solomon on one occasion and I must say that if you have the opportunity to train with him or one of his instructors, do it!

I love the "contemptuousness" of the Hawaiian weapons, particularly those with the shark teeth embedded. I would recommend someone out there in the FMATalk ether to start making trainers of some of these weapons...or make some bastons that have shark teeth embedded in them. Really...what else is there to do?

Hawaiians had no metal for weapons, they had more or less a sticks & stones kind of arsenal, however the bone-breaking & dis-location of joints part of the empty hands(lima) of 'lua'is what makes it so effective, they also like FMA encourages 'limb destruction', no matter how strong or fast a fighter is if a warrior loses his ability with his limbs primarily his 'hands'he is in a bad place ! Aloha oukou ! http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd263/Nokaoimaui/hawaiian_weapons.jpg
Hello Everybody,
Yep, the shark tooth weapons are called Lei-o-mano. The shorter weapons were actually used to cut meat, now imagine rotting meat still left in the weapon and the infection it would cause someone hit by it, especially in the Hawiaian climate. My favorite weapon and the most versitlile in the Lua systems is the Pahoa or short dagger. It is best described as a pointed stick with Shark teeth on the end for added measure. Nevertheless, you can thrust with it, Strike in revrese with it too make it a Newa or culb, Punch with it and or use the cord to strangle. Very nasty stuff. Also if you look on youtube under Nagasulong tournament you will see in the video montage some folks doing Lua Hulas (forms) in competition. One is doing empty hand the other is doing a short spear (Ihe) hula.......I will try to post some Pahoa pictures tommorow....
Thanks,
John

Neat, thanks!
The rightmost weapon in the close-up of the weapons is a small paddle?
Hello Arnisador,
It is a lei-o-mano non Taro leaf shaped version.. Sometimes they are open in the middle and you can catch trap the hand with the opening and apply locks etc.....
Thanks,
John

Ah, OK! I have seen the open version but didn't really think of them as variations of the same weapon. Neat!
