(I originally posted a version of this here (http://www.martialtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=500070#post500070).)

There is a brief interview in the current issue of Martial Arts Illustrated (Vol. 18, No. 9, Feb. 2006) with Aziwahija Yeop of Malaysian Silat (Seni Gayung Fatani Silat, translated as "Malay Art of War" by the interviewee; headed by Tuan Haji Anuar Abd Wahab). The interviewer is Dannio Khalid, and the interview is promoting a March 2006 seminar by Mr. Yeop in the U.K.

DK: What types of weaponry are used as part of your system?
AY: Silat technique is weapon technique. All the techniques in the system are basically weapon movement but in the first level the student will be exposed with the empty hand training. To mention Silat weapon in here is a lot but traditionally the Silat weapon are Keris, Sundang (sword), Parang and Tombak (long spear) because these are the weapons that the Malay warriors used in war.

(The rough English is in the original.) Stickwork is also shown in a picture; possibly these are thin wooden swords (the picture is blurry). Silat Olahraga (sport silat) is also mentioned.

Silat is used to train Malaysian Road Transport Department officers. Karate is also taught. Assaults on the officers have included machete attacks.

Haji Uho Holidin is a 72 year old performer who lives in Bandung, West Java. He is a senior teacher in Pencak Silat Panglipur Pamager Sari, a club that teaches and performs pencak silat seni. This is a movement art based on the fighting techniques of pencak silat, the authentic martial art of the Indo-Malayan archipelago. Pencak silat practitioners consider it to be a sport, an art, a form of combat training and a tool for mental and spiritual development.
