I made a new thread for this film (http://www.comics2film.com/index.php?a=story&b=34719). There was a trailer (http://www.comics2film.com/index.php?a=story&b=34717) for it before The Dark Knight (http://www.fmatalk.com/showthread.php?t=4578) and it's on the cover of Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213273,00.html) this week. See also its IMDb page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/) for more pics (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/mediaindex).

Legal trouble: The film may be delayed by wrangling between studios. Story here (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/movies/30watc.html?scp=1&sq=watchmen&st=cse).

From here:

But I don't think there's any way to win Moore over, he simply detests Hollywood. Moore said he has never watched any of the film adaptations of his comics creations (which have included "V for Vendetta," "From Hell," "Constantine" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and that he believes "Watchmen" is "inherently unfilmable." He also rues the effect of Hollywood's siren call on the contemporary comics scene.

There is one film that Moore is supporting right now. It's the new DVD release entitled "The Mindscape of Alan Moore" and it's an artfully executed documentary that is built entirely around Moore sitting in his somewhat spooky living room and ruminating about art, storytelling, magic and culture. The movie was made by Dez Vylenz, who was still a student at the London International Film School when he sent Moore a letter expressing interest in creating a documentary film on the writer as his senior project.

'Watchmen' Secrets Revealed (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/watchmen_blog.html)

I was invited on Wednesday to a screening of over twenty minutes of footage from "Watchmen," and I have to say that it looks like Snyder has done the impossible. The scenes had some unfinished visual effects and temporary music, but already I was able to get a sense of the energy and uncompromising dedication to the original text that Snyder is bringing to the film.

At last! An Alan Moore movie that won't make Alan Moore throw a fit!
(We should live so long)

I can't wait for this movie to come out. I just downloaded the first chapter of Watchmen on itunes...it made me a fan. The itunes comic is a moving portrait of the original work with a voice over reading the dialogue. Great stuff but the voice might annoy some people.

Let's hope this doesn't delay the opening:

Studios Try to Settle ‘Watchmen’ Dispute (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/10/movies/10watc.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=watchmen&st=cse)

Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox are moving toward a settlement of their bitter legal battle over rights to the superhero film “Watchmen,” lawyers for both sides said at a hearing here on Friday morning.

The film has already been shot, at a cost of about $130 million, and Warner Brothers, which made the movie in partnership with Legendary Pictures and Paramount Pictures, is planning to release it on March 6. But even before shooting began, Fox stepped forward, saying it actually owned the rights to the dark, highly regarded graphic novel on which the film was based.

Discouraging early review:
"Watchmen" turns superheroics into campy soap opera (Reuters) (http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reuters.com/quotwatchmenquot-turns-superheroics-into-campy-soap-opera-reuters)

Looks like we have the first real flop of 2009.

The previews sure look good though. Perhaps it'll be good for fans, at least, despite the changes that have been made to the central conspiracy and the attendant ending. It opens on Friday--just one week!

I flipped through a making of the Watchmen movie book at the bookstore today. It showed lead fight choreographer Damon Caro (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0138902/) and his assistant Richard Cetrone training actors. Apparently Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl received weeks of training to make their moves look polished.
