Army Sharpshooters Have Olympic Medals in Their Sights (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/10/sports/olympics/10marksmen.html?scp=2&sq=sharpshooters&st=cse)

A world-record holder in skeet shooting, Hancock, 19, knew he would probably never take aim at an enemy target. That is because he was recruited between his junior and senior years of high school into the Army Marksmanship Unit, a little-known squad dedicated to training and employing Olympic-level shooters. The unit, established in 1956 to serve as a symbol of America’s military prowess during the cold war, continues today as a public-relations and recruiting tool. Its members have won 21 Olympic medals.

Katy's Eller wins gold medal in double trap shooting (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/5937994.html)

Glenn Eller knew there was one person between him and a gold medal: Glenn Eller.

All he had to do was beat himself, he said.

He did so in record-breaking fashion.

The 26-year-old Katy native had a performance to remember, connecting on 190 of 200 targets to win the gold medal for the United States in double trap shooting Tuesday at the Beijing Shooting Range.

After two disappointing Olympic experiences (a 15th-place finish in 2000, when he suffered from food poisoning, and a 17th-place finish in 2004, when he lost focus due to a false-positive drug test), Eller said his goal this time was to get out of his own way.

Fuller is retiring after 21 years in the Army. Under Fuller’s mentor-ship the USAMU had some of its most successful years, which included seeing two of his Soldiers capture Olympic Gold medals in 2008 as well as numerous international, national and inter-service championships.
