In my son's copy of The Invincible Iron Man #2, on the stands now, they introduce the Triumph Division, superheroes of the Philippines:

Red Feather
St. George
Mighty Mother
Anitun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deities_of_Philippine_mythology)
Fighter One
The Wishing Man
The Great Mongoose

(described as: "The finest heroes the Philippines have to offer..."). Fighter One looked like a karateka to me.

Sorry to say they're all killed two pages later.

I just googled some pages. Uh...why does it look the like the Pinoy Super team is greeted by Thai Buddhist Monks? Doesn't Marvel know we're a mostly Catholic country?

Thanks! That's it exactly.

I get the impression that some of that might be explained later...or, it could just be ignorance.

There's a very brief reappearance of (the next iteration of) this group in Invincible Iron Man #4, on the stands now. It talks about what's special about superheroes in the Phil. (a family tradition in a long legacy). They may just "get it" at Marvel!

Are there Philippines comic book imprints, or do you only get U.S. and Japanese imports?

Kuwaiti Entrepreneur Hopes to Create the Next Pokémon (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122757193882554759.html?mod=googlenews_wsj)

In the comic books, Muslim teenagers from such diverse places such as Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Hungary, work to bring wisdom and reason back to the world.

The slideshow indicates that the Filipina superheroine is:

"Widad the Loving," from the Philippines, can make people feel the love around them, or the emptiness of hatred.

Gagambino (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gagambino)

Gagambino is an adaptation of Carlo J. Caparas' celebrated graphic novel currently airing on GMA Network, produced by its film-arm GMA Films. It premiered on October 20 starring Dennis Trillo leading a band of superheroes, and his six-feet tall spider.

The Balut in a Superhero’s Underpants (http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/sim/sim/view/20090517-205447/The-Balut-in-a-Superheros-Underpants)

In Marvel’s “Black Panther,” one of Mephisto’s minions says, “Kumusta ka na?” (How have you been?) What’s up with these Tagalog-speaking demons?

In “The Copybook Tales,” written by Fil-Canadian J. Torres, the lead character gets a call from his young brother who refers to him as “Kuya (older brother).” Torres’ upcoming graphic novel is called “Lola (Grandma)” (also published by Oni Press) and it’s about stories told to him by his own lola; stories about supernatural creatures in the Philippines.
