This has been proposed as a forum description:
The Albo family Kali was developed in the Philippines and traveled with Cornelio Albo when he immigrated to the Big Island of Hawaii. Albo taught the family system to his grandson, Hasting K. Albo, who learned the art, originally, in the form of eight dances which were used to hide the techniques of the art. Apohan Tuhan Hasting Albo was the first to teach the family system outside of the Albo clan, the first to codify the system, and the originator of the name of the art, Albo Kali Silat. Some of the hallmarks of the system include fighting on the vertical as well as the horizontal planes, and a view that the fight will be what it wishes to be not what you wish it to be, so that all ranges, weapons, and combat styles, to include grappling with and without weapons, must be studied.
I think it must be edited down! Anyone care to take a try?

This may still be too long, but I'll suggest it as a start:
Albo family Kali developed in the Philippines and was brought to Hawai'i by Cornelio Albo, who taught the system to his grandson Hasting K. Albo,. He learned the art in the form of eight dances which were used to hide the techniques, and was the first to codify and teach the family system outside of the Albo clan. The system emphasizes fighting on the vertical as well as the horizontal planes, and a view that all ranges, weapons, and combat styles must be studied.

Thanks for working on it. I've been out of town (out of state, really) for work reasons and had limited access to the forum.

I am in the process of moving (I am transferring to Ohio from my current location due to assuming some different duties within my law enforcement agency). I will be making very sporadic appearances here for a week or two while I complete the move to my new house. I will attempt to address any emails, private messages, or posts in the Albo Kali Silat section here as best I can while engaged in packing and unpacking.
Thanks.
Train hard and stay safe.

Where in Ohio are you moving to? I ask because I'm not too far from the PA/OH border.

I will be in the Youngstown area and will be teaching, once I get settled, in Warren, Ohio. The Warren Budokan have graciously allowed me to train in their facilities. Sounds like we might be pretty close to each other.

Youngstown's like 140mi from me, Warren's not much further. Maybe 2-2.5 hours on the road depending on traffic. I've been there a few times, so perhaps we'll be able to get together and share a little.

I have been very busy of late, and have not posted much. I hope to rectify that within the next couple of weeks. Next week I am in Colorado for some federal law enforcement training and will not be on the Internet much, if at all.
My students have been a bit remiss. I will have to encourage them to post more here, share their experiences, ask a question or two...
Those who do not study Albo Kali Silat are always welcome to ask questions as well or comment about videos or other posts, just as they are always welcome to contact me and drop by my school in Ohio to interact with a class.

Being rare and unfamiliar to the public I wonder what can be posted here that we have not done yet. As Albo Kali Silat Student for 2 years I increased my empty hand fighting tactics 10x through the weapons training and drills than I have in my sport full contact training. Even though the majority of kali or silat techniques are too outside the bounds of competitions and pro fighting I have been able to take mechnanics and fundementals and apply it effectively against my firends and family training in the base styles for sport MMA. I've been involved in martial arts for 16 years ranging from shotokan/american karate, boxing, tae kwon do, PKA kickboxing, and sport mma. Training in Albo Kali Silat offered a whole new challenge than just busted lips and noses in competitions and a more improve aspect of self defense and truly understanding how to use a weapon. The low level and grappling training is my biggest challenge because it is very physicaly demanding and I workout 4-5 days a week. Albo Kali Silat is my first FMA and I love it.
