I would like to start this Thread about the State of the "Teovels Balintawak" Family as of today...


So, what happened to the 12 original Chapters. Who is still teaching what when and where?

You are the right the Velez brothers are teaching in Ayala Park in Cebu City every Sunday. Feel free to visit them if you a chance you are always welcome there.

For the past 3 decades the original 12 chapters/masters of Teovel's Balintawak Group have evolved, matured and perfected the art of Balintawak in their own right. Eventually, spreading Balintawak worldwide and an international "brotherhood" developed. Thus, a few of the original 12 masters, created their own organization and perspective of teaching, training, and fighting. Realizing this change, the Velez brothers renamed and reorganized their "group" to "World Original Teovels Balintawak Arnis Group." The following are the master instructors for this group, to teach and support the next generation of Teovels Balintawak:
G.M. Chito Velez, Monie Velez, Eddie Velez, Winnie de la Rosa (teaching at Abellana Sports Complex), Dr. Ben Marapao, and Nene Gaabucayan (Southern CA). Sadly, Romeo de la Rosa passed away a few years ago.

The "Red Chapter" designation is not accurate. From my conversations with him, the chapter orgainizations were laid out after he left the Philippines for New Zealand.Robert

The "Red Chapter" Information - as well as a lot of other Information I gathered about the 12 Chapters is from taken from Master Wilson R. Ceniza's Article found at the Link below.

There he states:
Bobby Taboada assigned the red chapter club in absentia as he went to New Zealand in 1979 three years before the formal establishment of the Teovel Balintawak Arnis Group in 1982. That was then before he moved to Australia and eventually to North Carolina, U.S.A.

sensei tonying as what we called him, organized Lapu-lapu martial arts club inwhich it teaches shorin-ryu karate and balintawak eskrima, i used to be one of those students during 2002 and left the group because of the sport karate they teach, he organized the club during 2000 together with his student before, vicente pino, which was a distant relative of mine and a classmate of my uncle when sensei tonying used to teach karate.... we used to trian M_W_F 6:30 - 9:00 pm..... i still want to learn from the man if not for his cocky grandchildren who were blackbelts that time, although i was childish back then, sensei tonying is a very effective teacher with an occassional slapping of his uway, back then i didnt understand the act so that made me quit. until then i havent heard him teaching but if he teaches again then i will happily enroll....by the way the balintawak stuff i watched during those days encouraged me to study FMA, so i practiced everything i saw after my karate class and i also learned largo mano from my mother's uncle in Tuburan,Cebu but still i want to learn how to play sikit-sikit.
