Can you kindly share how you train at home and what equipment you use to develop power or speed. I for one use two tires one hanging on top of the other to develop speed, power and coordination for delivering strikes in both the upper and lower part of the body. I'm eager to hear from everyone so I can also learn from what you have shared or will share on this topic.
Thanks everyone! :)

thanks for sharing Supremo!

for now I'm just using my sticks, a pair of heavy ones and then some light ones.

I'm planning to have tires set up in my garage, and good thing you showed your set up, looks good indeed.

The picture is for inspiration.Nice one.

That is good workout chamber. I remember my uncle Elmer using a heavy stick when I was young. It is a good workout for power, you notice how light an ordinary stick would be after swinging a heavy one? hehe!

Actually it does Shaun, so I make sure when I hit the tire its not siesta time, hehe! My other uncle in LA received a complaint by their neighbor because of the noise it makes every time he worked out . :coolyello

3 tires on top of each other fixed to a wall. just enough to represent the head, torso and lower portion of a person.

it was great! but since my mother moved to my place, she wanted to clear my place of everything that is not familiar to her. she gave my tires to the magbo-bote dyaryo. too bad i was away. she was about to give away my sticks and washing machine too... aurgh!... mothers...

For home training, a tire is all you really need (or two, or three depending on your preferences)... plus a couple of sticks! Hahahahaha. Many people don't really realize the kind of development consistent tire hitting can bring... in terms of strength/power and form. But the noise is indeed a problem especially when you live in a neighborhood where houses are close to each other... hahahahaha. But seeing you hitting something with sticks, I don't think your neighbors will "mind!" Nobody sure seemed to mind in my neighborhood! Hahahahaha. Of course I'm just kidding!

It's probably because they'd rather see you hit the tires than the neighbors. hehe

hey lbb, i agree with supremo, mothers have learned this universal MA applicable to all nationalities, maybe similar to the art of the curler smoking mrs. in kung fu hustle! :coolyello

the technique is to hit the tire uno, seis, doblada then stare coldly at you neighbor watching, haha! alas! no complaints!

does lifting weights at home help develop speed? I'm worried that weight lifting might affect speed.

i just placed the 3 tires on top of each other, at each midpoint of the tire where it makes contact with the wall, i drove in nails one on each side to tie the tires on to it, and then tied the tires together also on top of each other. i used nylon rope for tying.

if you want, i have extra tires at home, its yours if you want it. when my mom gave the tires to the bote dyaryo, i bought a new set to setup. but i thought that my psycho mom would just dismantle it again anyways...

with the tyres chained together do they move a lot and is this a problem with the striking?

what are the training pros and cons of having the tires hung and moving about compared to having it tightly tied and stationary?

One of the advantages of having a swinging tire is that you get to practice your sigida, abierta and retrasada the way a boxer uses a punching bag to practice his combinations, body coordination especially the footwork. A swinging tire is the closest you can get to a live opponent in that you can move forward as the tire moves back or you may move to the side as you deliver a strike as the tire lunges towards you. The only disadvantage I see on a stationary tire is that you don't get to practice these movements I mentioned regarding a swinging tire.

The disadvantage I see on both the swinging and stationary tire is that they both don't hit back, hehe!

Ah, ok. Thank you. :)

From the pictures, it seems a swinging tire needs more space (360 deg all around?) and that could be a disadvantage for home training.
