Hataw Sticks?

Has anyone heard or even tried hataw sticks before? I just fond it on E-bay and I'm not sure if it's worth getting. Any info would be great. Hi,

My name is Simon and I'm selling these sticks on ebay and on my website - eskrimakaliarnis.com.

The sticks were developed after several of the "S Sticks" (shall we call them) broke in competition. As you probably all know these types of sticks are expensive at $50 each plus shipping. We are selling our Hataw Padded Sticks for $50 a pair with shipping included to the United States.

The main difference with these sticks is the tough Tumalin Rattan inside the padding. As you can see we chopped up the sticks for your viewing pleasure. Recently my supplier lent a local tournament 50 Hataw Sticks and not one breakage was reported.

Well as you can see in the video the hataw sticks don't break because they are very flexible...Sorta like the action flex stiks. Any stick whether it is made of pvc, hard wood, rattan will break. that's nature of rigid material...doesn't bend. The "S" sticks were created to simulate a real stick and real sticks DON'T bend like the way he showed on his video...give em both at try and see which one you like better.

My Punong Guro permitted us to practice sparing this weekend, in preparation for a tournament. I had the chance to use padded rattan sticks (pic below, as an attachment). I really like the feel except when my partner whacked me on the head without an helmet.http://www.fmatalk.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

In my opinion, I think it is better to compete with 'real' padded rattan because this is used in most of the competitions that i know. And I think that hataw sticks and flex stick are better for practicing sparing for the reason that padded rattan and other fancy padded sticks break easily and it becomes costly, especially martial artists in a budget like me.

I still haven't tried a flex stick or a hataw stick yet but i am sure i am purchasing one in the future for use in our school.

I have purchased 4 of the Hataw sticks from Simon. They are made in the Phil. Islands, helping the ecnomy there. The sticks work great and so far the tips have not ripped apart. I have used many different types of padded sticks and that is what seems to break first. So far so good, I would recomend them.

As you can see the stick does break with dangerous results. Before the stick breaks the outer shell is totally red.. after it breaks, the top half flies off and tears the sheath and the rattan inner core shoots out of the tip exposing the inner padding.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont think that is a hataw stick. It does not have the same handle. I think it was the comparison video between a hataw and a regular padded rattan.

I'm convinced. But they will not be able to process my order , apparently Kuya simon is exibhiting his product in U.K.

I checked out the website,http://www.senishow.com/ It looks like a big event. There is even an Escrima tournament -WEKAF style.I wish we have something like that in Canada,at least not that i Know.

I have bought a few items from Simon and have always been satisfied. I bought one of my teachers two wooden swords and he sent me two wooden daggers to match them My teacher loved them. Good luck.
