Stun gun used on pregnant woman in Ohio (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071129/ap_on_re_us/pregnant_woman_stun_gun)

The FBI is investigating whether a policeman violated a pregnant woman's civil rights when he used a stun gun to subdue her, authorities in this Dayton suburb said Thursday.
[...]
He added that the woman wore a winter coat and did not tell the officer she was pregnant.

So if it's OK to taze someone...is it OK to taze their unborn child too?

Being Tazer qualified (from being a correctional officer) and a father of two I can see both sides of this. The shock she would have received would not penetrate to the fetus. The womb would protect the child. The effect would be no more than that of her doing a physical workout which has shown to have no side effects. As an officer I'm not excepted to be psychic and know someone is pregnant it is her responsibility to say that she is. Now don’t get wrong would I want my wife tazered when she was pregnant no I wouldn’t but she was the one resisting.

thanks,

Meanwhile, in Alaska the issue of tasering a 10 or 11 year old (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Public_Safety_Commissioner_dismissal#Taser_ incident) remains front page news (indirectly).

Taser did testing before the release of it on pregnant pigs. They found that there was no harm or effects to the fetus.

She would risk more damage to herself and the unborn child by resisting and having the officer subdue her by hand.
