http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/000_0911.jpg (http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t7/christop67/000_0911.jpg)Hello. I was trying to find out if this is considered a Golok. It came in a box of WWII items that I received from someone. It belonged to their grandfather who served during the war. Im just trying to find out if its from that era. I will try and post a picture. I can email anyone who is interested in helping. Thank you for any help.

My best guess is that this would be more of a bolo. (Which I have found to be the generic term for a Filipino sword!) The tang where it meets the blade looks quite a bit like my talibong knife, but the blade is unlike anything I have seen before.
I would venture a guess that it's a piece that was produced for the G.I. trade during or shortly after WWII. The over-all shape of the blade itself looks very much like the Case and Western Bowie knives that were popular about that time.
This probably didn't help you much, but it's a start!

That sword is called a Pira. Look here to see the difference:
The Pira - http://traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/filipino.Pira.Cotabato.htm
The Golok - http://traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/filipino.golok.htm
The Golok is more of a Nothern Filipino weapon or toll and the Pira is found more in Mindanao. I have found the word "Golok" to be a generic term due to the fact that there is an Indonesian sword called the Golok. I don't have a picture of it but it has more of a rounded tip to it in Indonesia.
