Hi guys Im new here and was wondering if taking private lessons twice a month for only and hour a lesson would help get the basics down? Right now I train in shorinryu and I just wanted get some training with the knife and stick...And at 40$ a lesson I cant afford to do both...

Doesn't Shorinryu have it's own weapons?

You have to understand that you don't just "get some training with the knife and stick." Good weapon based curricullums are whole artforms in themselves. Also realize that many of the basics between what you learn in Shorin-ryu and an FMA (or Pekiti in a particular) are going to be different, can you as a student reconcile those differences? Honestly, many people can't, or can't do it well. You can't go into a new system thinking "I'll do this two hours a month," how would you or your instructor react if a fencer told you "I wanted to learn to punch and kick, is two hours a month enough?"

If you want to learn a new art, you have to put sufficient time and dedication to it to learn it well. In addition, FMAs are not good solo arts, you really need to have a training partner to work drills with, solo training only gets you a very short distance.
