Dear Martial Arts Owners and Students
Competing for Canada in an international athletic competition is the pinnacle of an amateur athletic career. Wearing the Maple Leaf on your uniform, in competition and especially on the medal podium is, for many, a life affirming moment. Knowing that as O Canada resounds throughout the venue you have brought honour and pride to your country is a tremendous feat. Unfortunately, for the majority of elite amateur athletes there is a great demand for training and sacrifice but little financial support to meet the international standards in competition.
The International Federation of Martial Arts, Canada is preparing to host the 2007 Team Canada Trials in St. Catharines this June 2, 2007. Those athletes who succeed in becoming Canadian Champions will go on to represent Canada at the 2007 World Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey November 9-10, 2007. As a federation we are beginning a number of local fundraising events, corporate and government agencies to support the travel, accommodation and competition fees these elite athletes will have to pay in order to represent our nation. We believe that all Canadian athletes should be fully funded.
This is a rare Canadian's opportunity to travel and complete for your own country in a world venue. Canada will be competing against USA, Germany, Switzerland, Trinidad, etc. We are looking for the best Martial Artists that Canada has to offer whether it is Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung-Fu, or Jiu-jitsu. I sincerely believe that Canada has the best some of the best martial artists in the world. Now it is our time to prove it. On June 2, 2007, we are asking the best martial artists ages six and up to compete in point sparring, forms, weapons form, and stick sparring. The top three winners from each division will be selected for the National team.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 905-704-0374 or by email at IFMA.Canada@hotmail.com (IFMA.Canada@hotmail.com)

Gerry Disanto
