Hello all,

I am trying to find some easy demos/diagrams regarding the angles of eskrima for a friend of mine to refer to...

just simple ones so he can follow them while i try to find time to make a more detailed on. i found an old link

http://www.martialartsresource.com/abass/_photos.html

but it is sadly out of date... i'm looking for at least the first five angles of striking and basic blocking. nothing advanced.

If anyone can help me, i appreciate it very much!...

thanks in advance!

Cap.

I do have something that might be helpful, however, it is for style of eskrima that I practice (Kabaroan) and depending on how much you know (or don't know) about our system may (or may not) may make sense.

Our PHD stands for perpendicular, horizontal and diagonal. Blocks are named after the strike. Rather than use the numbering system as is found in other systems, we use a descriptive name.

Let me know if you think it can be of use. I have it as a PDF and can email it to you should you decide to look at it.

BTW, the latest issue of Black Belt or Kung Fu had a diagram of the 12 strikes for La Coste/Inosanto and Doce Pares, reflecting the difference in the striking. Is that what you are looking for?

Try downloading, dan inosantos "the fillipino martial arts" you can find any torrent or even a straight download off google, its out of print so your not harming guro inosanto and is a fantastic introduction to the angles/stickwork of lacoste/inosanto and one of the diagrams you seek.

We realize that this book is out of print and that the author would not appear to be financially harmed by this action but even still we must ask that no one encourage others to find "work-arounds" for copyrighted material.

But yeah, it's a great book! Does Amazon have a "Look Inside" for it?

Most diagrams that I've seen are variations of lines or loops arranged along an "X" pattern. Below is something I just put together that might work for you as different systems introduce differnet templates to represent their angles of attack:

In San Miguel Eskrima there are 12 Angles of Attack that I will list below:

1. Diagonal forehand slash to neck or collarbone
2. Diagonal backhand slash to neck or collarbone
3. Horizontal forehand slash to waist, hip, or elbow
4. Horizontal backhand slash to waist, hip or elbow
5. Thrust to lower right quadrant – palm down
6. Thrust to lower left quadrant – palm up
7. Upward forehand diagonal slash to knee or hip
8. Upward backhand diagonal slash to knee or hip
9. Thrust to upper right quadrant – palm down
10. Thrust to upper left quadrant – palm up
11. Vertical slash downward to crown of head
12. High palm-down thrust to temple or eye

Accordingly one could diagram the slashes with lines and the thrusts with circles. In the following diagram #12 is the highest circle, the other circles represent the thrusts to the high or lower quadrants, and the slashes are represented by the lines. Notice that slashes can go in two directions.

Now, in the following sequence there are two examples of "arko" shown:

One could show a change of level by representing the two horizontal slashes like so:

One could show a thrust to the eye (Angle #12) followed by a slash to the knuckles (Angle #1 - Notice that the target has changed) like so:
