This story (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0611250146nov25,1,1064637.story) in today's Chicago Tribune carries a large picture that is not in the web edition. It shows Michael Stone in an arm bar with a thumb lock put on by a U.K. LEO who uses his other hand to apparently pry something from his hand. The caption says "Michael Stone [...] is disarmed Friday at a parliamentary building..." and the story states that:

After spray-painting "Sinn Fein-IRA mur ..." on one of the buildings granite pillars, Stone, armed with a gun and knife, tried to storm past security guards inside the building. When he was stopped, he still managed to fling a bag into the building's reception area.

Fearing a bomb, police quickly evacuated the building. Later, Northern Ireland Chief Constable Hugh Orde said the knapsack contained six explosive devices "fairly amateurish in design." Outside, as police wrestled him to the ground, Stone shouted "no surrender"--the motto of loyalist hard-liners.

It looks like it's a gun disarm, but I can't tell for sure. There's a video of it at this link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/6184614.stm) with a clipped version of the same picture. The picture there omits the disarm, unfortunately--if the picture extended just a bit more to the left you could see it, and if it extended just a bit more to the right you could see the pistol in the other LEO's left hand rather than just her empty right hand.

Unusual Allies in a Legal Battle Over Texas Drivers’ Gun Rights (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/05/us/politics/05guns.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)

Keith Patton was driving home one night in February when police officers pulled over his red Ford Explorer for a traffic stop.

His license and insurance form were in his gym bag on the floor near the back seat. Under the bag was a .357 Magnum.

Mr. Patton, 51, an oil-field geologist, software tester and martial arts instructor from suburban Katy, told the police about the gun, which he said he had bought hours before from a co-worker for target shooting. Moments later, he was handcuffed and on his way to jail, facing a charge of unlicensed carrying of a weapon.

The arrest might have been routine elsewhere, but this is Texas, where a code rooted in the days of the highwayman recognizes the right of travelers to be armed, and the Legislature has repeatedly endorsed that principle.

Defiant police officers and prosecutors, however, saying they retain law enforcement discretion, have continued arresting and bringing cases against motorists like Mr. Patton found with unlicensed handguns.
