Were these different Modern Arnis organizations formed after Professor Pressas passed away?

Most were formed after Professor's passing, but some have roots in organizations or sub-groups prior to that time.

Too many.

How do you define organization? I wouldn't count a single school as an organization. 2 or more sure. But not one. That to me would be an indy group.

Too many.

Why would you say that?

Too many.
Hello! Are you still there?

Too many.
I don't feel that more organizations are a bad thing. With more groups, more people can be reached.

I have to concur with Tim! With the Professor's passing people
needed to step up and fill the void so to speak! Many of the
orgs. came about because of this. It would be wonderful to just
have one but let us face reality and that is not going to happen
anytime soon. With more organizations definately more people
have the opportunity to train and learn the fantastic art of Modern
Arnis! Also with more organizations more material is being created,
such as videos, DVD's, CD's, Books, etc. On top of that their are
more seminars available! All of these are a plus in my opinion!
Hopefully the founders of all the varied organizations and the
independents can continue to work hard and more importantly
support each other! Modern Arnis is only going to grow, get bigger
and healthier in the next ten years or so! At least that is my opinion!

Agreed. The plethora of organizations is part of the growth cycle. Many different viewpoints exploring in their own direction with their own goals. This can only strengthen the art as a whole. In time I expect we'll see some organizations merge or one will drop away and their students will merge into another. This too will strengthen the art. One vision/viewpoint is, IMO, an insufficient gene pool which will lead to a weak and anemic art that cannot grow/adapt except by comittee. Ick.

Some will merge or drop away, yes--but some will declare themselves to be doing a new style ("Post-modern Arnis"). This is good for the professor's teachings but does represent a drain of people from his art.

I agree about the designed-by-committees problem! Ugh.

Natural selection. If Post-Modern has something to offer that Modern doesn't then by all means you should learn from it. If its really Poser-Modern then people will come back or they aren't the people you want anyway. *shrug* Besides... real eskrimadors group anything Post-Modern with Quiche and Metrosexual.:mecry:

Post-modern? That raises the question...should the art be evolved, or should it be preserved as the Professor left it to us?
