We really got hammered! I was out of power for 48hours. Some people won't get power for at least one week. Bob, do you have any photos of this force of nature?

Copying some notes from my posts elsewhere:

Currently, the city is a disaster area. 270,000 are still without power, though its reported that 41,000 have had it restored. My neighborhood looks like a war zone...the only thing missing is bomb craters and bodies. Wires are down everywhere, and we're one of the few houses on the street with power and phone service.

First 3 pics are from 2:30AM Friday morning. It was, interesting. The snow was falling wet and heavy, and trees were bending under the strain. Every so often you'd hear the "whump" of snow letting go and hitting the ground....punctuated by the rifle crack as tree branches gave out and came crashing down, taking out power, phone and cable lines.

Next batch is from 930am the same day. You can see the mess better here. Of the 4 roads one can use to get to my house, all 4 were impassible from downed trees and lines.

They are saying that 90% of the trees in the county have been damaged, with 30+% unsavable. A damn shame as WNY's trees are one of it's true gems.

Ditto!

There's something SO wrong about snow burying trees before they have lost their leaves ;)

For the most part the snow is gone. It is 59 degrees at the moment and still rising. The problem is the tree branch removal and repair. The clean up could take months!

Sounds like a job for...machetes! :D

(Er, how big are these branches?)

Can't say much about it, I was in California for the USFMAF Tournament in Disney. When I got back it was bitter cold and there was about 2 feet of snow on the ground!

I'm flying out to Anaheim in 2 weeks for a conference in Costa Mesa!

Lighter snow here--maybe 4".

It sounds like parts of NY are getting some serious snow! How's Buffalo doing?

A whole week of rain lies ahead of me! I might rather have the snow.

Sorry to hear that Arni :(

Although it hit me leaving work the other night...the air was warm and damp from all the melting piles of snow....it smelled like spring outside. It will be great when it is here for real :)
