Origins of the forms
By Tony Torre - Mon, 02 Oct 2006 17:20:44 GMT

====================

I believe the empty hand forms came from Karate as Proffessor Presas was well versed in Karate, but where did the stick forms come from?

I don't know! The empty-hand forms are Shotokan. I believe he created the stick forms, didn't he?

The forms of Modern Arnis such as Anyo 1, Anyo 2, Anyo 3 and Anyo 4 were created in the early 70`s to accomodate the need to teach Arnis in public school. And to develop forms and basic coordinations Prof. Remy devised the forms. The creation of these forms are based on kihon and taikyuko pattern of movements.

GM Ernie Presas, devised more forms based on his style of solo baston, doble baston and espada y daga. But all are typically in formal pattern, that`s why some tribe of Arnis tagging Modern Arnis as Karate with stick, but this is not bothering the MA tribe. Because we believe that Modern Arnis must carry the traditional movements of stick fighting vis a vis with adaptation of effective martial arts.
